Online notary for immigration law firms and immigration attorneys
ENotary lets immigration law firms notarize client affidavits, powers of attorney, travel consent letters and declarations on video, so a petitioner, beneficiary or family member does not have to find a notary in person. Each signer opens a link, passes identity checks, signs with a commissioned online notary, and the sealed document and audit trail return to your case file. Business includes 12 network notary sessions a month for 299 USD, or 149 USD per month billed yearly.
The short answer for immigration firms
Most USCIS forms are signed without a notary, so notarization in immigration work sits mainly on the supporting paper: affidavits from family and friends, powers of attorney, consent letters for minors, declarations and documents sent to a foreign consulate. Those signers are often scattered across states and countries, and each trip to a notary slows a filing. Remote online notarization moves that step to a video call. Check the receiving agency, consulate or court for what it accepts before you change your process.
Stop chasing notary stamps while a filing waits

Where immigration signings stall
The petition is ready and the evidence list is nearly complete. Then one supporting affidavit is missing a notary seal.
| Stall point | What happens | What RON changes |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsor or relative in another state | Paper is mailed, signed, notarized and mailed back | The signer joins a video session from home, subject to the notary's state rules |
| Client with no transport or work hours | The signing waits for a free weekend | Sessions run in the evening, so the client signs after work |
| Several family members per case | Each person signs on a different day | Up to 4 signers join one session |
| Parent travelling with a child | A consent letter is needed before the trip | Both parents sign the consent letter on video days before departure |
| Client who is abroad | A US notary cannot see them in person | Depending on the state, a notary may notarize a signer outside the US for documents tied to the US. Confirm the rules first |
Immigration documents that go through a notary
Whether a notarial act is needed depends on the agency, the consulate and the document. These are the items immigration teams send to a notary most often.
| Document | Who signs | Why it is notarized |
|---|---|---|
| Supporting affidavit from a relative or friend | Affiant | Gives the declaration a sworn jurat and a verified identity |
| Power of attorney for a client's property or family matters | Principal | Banks, schools and foreign offices often want an acknowledged signature |
| Travel consent letter for a minor | Parent or parents | Airlines, border officers and some foreign countries ask for a notarized letter |
| Declaration of marital or family relationship | Declarant | Some consulates and foreign offices request notarized statements |
| Translator declaration | Translator | Often a plain certification, but some recipients ask for a notarized version |
| Documents sent abroad | Signer | May need an apostille after notarization |
RON handles the notarial act only. It does not decide what USCIS, a consulate or a court requires, so keep those checks in your intake checklist. For documents that travel abroad, our guide to online notary and apostille explains what happens after the seal.
How an immigration document gets notarized online
- 1 Your team uploads the final document, or picks a saved template, and adds each signer and any witness.
- 2 Each signer receives a link by email or text and opens it in a browser. No app install.
- 3 Each signer passes credential analysis of a government photo ID and knowledge-based authentication built to the MISMO standard.
- 4 A commissioned online notary joins the video call, confirms identity and willingness, watches each signer sign and applies the electronic seal and certificate.
- 5 The sealed PDF, the audit trail and the session recording go to your case file.
Not every signer holds a US ID. If a client or relative has only a foreign passport, ask what credentials the notary accepts in the relevant state before you schedule.
Cost per month for an immigration practice
Per-session services start at about 25 USD for one signer and one seal, and each extra signer or seal costs more at most vendors. A monthly plan wins once signings are routine. These figures use the minimum per-session price, before extras.
| Sessions per month | Per-session at about 25 USD minimum | ENotary |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | about 100 USD | 119 USD on Starter, or 59 USD billed yearly |
| 12 | about 300 USD, more with extra signers and seals | 299 USD on Business, or 149 USD billed yearly |
| 40 | about 1,000 USD, more with extra signers and seals | 799 USD on Scale, or 399 USD billed yearly |
Three family members signing separate affidavits and a consent letter is one ENotary session, since a session covers up to 4 signers and 10 documents. A small practice with fewer than 5 notarizations a month may find pay-per-use cheaper, and we say so. Full plans are on the online notary cost page.
Who in an immigration firm uses it
- Immigration attorneys who collect affidavits from family, employers and sponsors.
- Paralegals and case managers who schedule signings and chase missing seals.
- Corporate immigration teams whose HR group gathers declarations from employees and relatives in several states.
- Firms with a commissioned notary on staff, who can run sessions on own-notary seats. Business includes 2 and Scale includes 10, and those sessions do not use the network allowance. See bring your own notary.
What to ask any RON vendor before a rollout
- Is pricing per session, per signer or per seal, and what does a family of four signing three documents cost?
- Which credentials does the notary accept when a signer holds only a foreign passport?
- Can a signer outside the US join, and under which state rules?
- Are evening and weekend sessions available in the states you work in?
- Does the audit trail include the recording and the notary journal entry, so the record stands if a document is questioned later?
Immigration notarization questions
Can immigration documents be notarized online?
Often yes. Affidavits, powers of attorney and consent letters can be notarized on video by a commissioned online notary. Confirm that the agency, consulate or court receiving the document accepts an electronic original or a notary-certified paper copy.
Does USCIS require notarization?
Most USCIS forms are signed under penalty of perjury and do not need a notary. Notarization shows up mostly on supporting documents and on papers sent to foreign offices. Check the form instructions and the request notice for the case in front of you.
Can a client who is abroad use an online notary?
In some states, a notary may notarize a signer located outside the US when the document relates to US matters. Rules differ by state and by document, so confirm with the notary before booking the session.
How much does online notarization cost for an immigration firm?
Per-session services charge from about 25 USD for one signer and one seal, rising with extra signers and seals. ENotary includes sessions in a monthly plan: 4 on Starter at 119 USD, 12 on Business at 299 USD and 40 on Scale at 799 USD, each covering up to 4 signers and 10 documents.
What record do we keep for a notarized affidavit?
Every session keeps the identity check results, a timestamped event log, the notary's electronic journal entry and the audio and video recording. That gives you evidence of who signed, when, and how the notary confirmed identity.
