Notarize documents online in six steps
From the moment your team uploads a PDF to the moment the sealed record is in your workspace, a remote notarization on ENotary follows the same six steps. Here is what your team does, what the signer sees and what the notary does at each one.
1. Upload
Drag your PDFs into a new session and mark where each signer signs and where the notary completes the certificate. For documents you notarize often, apply a saved template and the fields are placed for you.
- PDF documents, up to 10 per session.
- Signature, initial, date and notary fields.
- Templates for recurring packages such as closings or HR packets.
2. Invite
Add each signer by email or mobile number. Each one gets a secure link to their part of the session. Choose a scheduled time or let signers start on demand.
- Up to 4 signers per session.
- A witness can be invited when the document needs one.
- Signers need no app and no account.

3. Verify identity
Before any notary joins, every signer goes through identity checks in the browser, following the standards of the notary's commissioning state.
- ID credential analysis:
- the signer photographs a government-issued photo ID, front and back, and the ID is checked for security features and signs of tampering.
- Knowledge-based authentication:
- the signer answers questions drawn from public and commercial records, within a time limit.
- Liveness selfie:
- the signer takes a short selfie that is matched to the ID photo.
If a signer fails a check, the session does not start. The signer can retry within the limits set by the state.
4. Meet the notary
A commissioned notary from the ENotary network, or one of your own notaries, joins the audio-video session. The notary compares each signer with their ID, confirms that they understand the document and sign willingly, and administers an oath for a jurat. Signers then sign electronically while the notary watches.
5. Seal
The notary completes the notarial certificate for the act (acknowledgment, jurat or copy certification) and applies the digital notary seal and digital certificate. From this moment the document is locked, and any change is detectable.
6. Keep the record
The sealed PDF, the audit trail, the notary's journal entry and the recording reference are saved in your workspace. Signers receive their copy. Your team can download the documents, export the audit trail and share the sealed file with the recipient.
Read what the record contains on the notarization audit trail page.
What the signer sees
- An email or text message with a secure link from your company.
- A short screen with the document and what they will sign.
- Three identity steps: ID photos, questions and a selfie.
- A video session with the notary.
- A copy of the sealed document at the end.
The signer needs a valid photo ID, a device with a camera and microphone, and a stable connection.
