Notary API pricing and what each remote online notarization costs when your software creates it

Most remote online notarization vendors do not publish a notary API price. Proof lists a pay-as-you-go tier at 25 USD per notarization meeting that does not include API access, and its API sits in team plans priced by quote. ENotary publishes it: the API and signed webhooks come with Scale at 799 USD per month, or 399 USD per month billed yearly, with 40 sessions included.

A signer holds an ID card to a laptop camera during an online notarization.

The short answer

A notary API has two price components: access to the API itself and the cost of each notarization it creates. Vendors usually sell the first by quote and the second per session, per signer or per seal, which makes a budget hard to build before you talk to sales. If you can state your monthly volume, the simplest comparison is cost per session at that volume, with the API, the notary and the audit trail all counted in.

What vendors publish about notary API pricing

These notes come from public pricing and help pages checked in October 2026. Where a vendor publishes nothing, the table says so rather than guessing.

The pattern matters more than any single figure. If a vendor's cheapest published rate is on a tier without API access, the real cost of a software-driven workflow is whatever the quote says.

What to price when software creates the notarizations

A fair comparison counts more than the headline number.

  • **Platform and API access.** Is it included, an add-on, or a separate contract?
  • **Per session or per signer.** A two-signer closing package costs twice on a per-signer model.
  • **Seals and documents.** Some vendors charge per seal, so a ten-document packet is not one price.
  • **Identity checks.** Credential analysis and knowledge-based authentication are a line item at some vendors and included at others.
  • **The notary.** Do you supply commissioned notaries, or does the vendor? That is the largest hidden cost on platform-only products.
  • **Evidence.** The audit trail, session recording and journal entry should come back through the API, not only in a dashboard.
  • **Webhooks.** Without signed events, your system has to poll for status.

Notary API cost per session on a published plan

BillingPrice per monthSessions includedCost per session at full use
Scale, monthly799 USD40about 20 USD
Scale, yearly399 USD40about 10 USD
Enterprisefrom 799 USDCustom volumeAgreed in the contract

A session covers up to 4 signers and up to 10 documents. Scale also includes 10 seats for your own commissioned notaries, so a staff notary can take sessions your system creates while the network handles the rest. The session count is the number you should compare with a per-signer model: a title packet with two signers is one session here.

A worked month at 40 notarizations

Take 40 two-signer notarizations created by your system in a month.

ModelCalculationMonthly cost
Per-session network notary at Proof pay-as-you-go rates25 meeting + 2 x 4 identity + 2 x 4 e-sign + 10 second signer = about 51 USD per session, 40 sessionsabout 2,040 USD, and no API on that tier
ENotary Scale, billed monthlyFlat plan, 40 sessions included799 USD
ENotary Scale, billed yearlyFlat plan, 40 sessions included399 USD per month

The first row uses the published pay-as-you-go components and is only a rough guide, because a vendor can bill the second signer and the e-sign fee differently, and because that tier does not list API access. Ask every vendor to price your real signer and document counts in writing.

Who buys a notary API

  • Title and escrow production teams that want a notarization step inside their closing software.
  • Lenders and servicers that need sealed agreements and an audit trail attached to the loan file automatically.
  • Insurance claims platforms that send powers of attorney and sworn statements at volume.
  • HR and onboarding systems that notarize documents for relocating staff.

Teams that only notarize a few documents a month rarely need an API. A plan in the web app is cheaper and simpler until volume justifies integration. If you are building the integration yourself and want a head start on the surrounding code, a tool like an API generator that builds endpoints from a schema can cover the plumbing on your side, while the notarization itself stays with a commissioned notary.

Questions to put to any vendor before you sign

  • What is the total monthly cost at our volume, with API access, identity checks and seals included?
  • Is a two-signer session billed once or per signer?
  • Who supplies the notaries, in which states, and at what hours?
  • Which webhook events do you send and are they signed?
  • Does the API return the sealed PDF, the audit trail and the recording?
  • What is the minimum term, and what happens to unused sessions?

Notary API pricing questions

How much does a notary API cost?

It depends on the vendor, and many do not publish it. On ENotary the API comes with the Scale plan at 799 USD per month, or 399 USD per month billed yearly, with 40 sessions included, about 10 to 20 USD per session at full use. Other vendors quote API access after a sales call.

Does Proof have a public API price?

Proof publishes pay-as-you-go fees, such as 25 USD per notarization meeting, but lists API access in team plans that are priced by quote. Ask for a written quote that includes your expected monthly volume, signers and seals.

Is an online notary API cheaper than the web app?

Not per notarization. The API saves staff time because your system creates sessions and receives the sealed documents automatically, so the benefit shows up in labor and fewer retyped fields. If volume is low, the web app on a smaller plan costs less overall.

Can our own notaries use the API workflow?

Yes, on platforms that support own-notary seats. ENotary Scale includes 10 seats, and a session created through the API can be assigned to one of your notaries or to a network notary. The audit trail records which notary completed the act.

What does the API return after a session?

On ENotary it returns the status of each signer, the sealed PDF and a JSON audit trail, and signed webhooks announce each step. Check that any vendor you evaluate returns the evidence, not just a completion flag. Details are on the notary API page.
